Chronic stress, high blood pressure, joint pain, and metabolic issues (diabetes, obesity) don’t just affect your body – they drain your mind. Kerala Ayurveda’s Dhara therapies use a continuous, rhythmic flow of medicated liquids to reset your nervous system, improve circulation, and relieve pain – drug‑free and deeply restorative.
At Amrut Ayurved and Kerala Panchakarma (Rahatani, Pimple Gurav, Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune), we offer four specialized Dhara treatments, each targeting specific health concerns.
🌊 What Are Dhara Therapies?
Dhara (meaning “continuous stream”) involves pouring warm medicated oil, buttermilk, milk, or herbal decoctions over a specific body part – the head, heart, knee, or whole body. The rhythmic flow induces a parasympathetic (rest‑and‑digest) dominant state, lowering stress hormones, improving blood flow, and promoting tissue healing.
The Science of the “Flow“: How Dhara Heals
Dhara therapies work through Continuous Sensory Stimulation and Percutaneous Absorption. Here is how each specialized treatment targets your health:
Shirodhara (The Mind Reset): A continuous stream of warm oil on the “Ajna Chakra“ (forehead) induces a deep alpha-state in the brain. It scientifically downregulates the Sympathetic Nervous System, lowering Cortisol (stress hormone) and regulating Blood Pressure.
Hrid-Dhara (Cardiac Support): Medicated oil poured over the heart region. This helps in “Hridya“ (cardioprotective) action, reducing palpitations, chest tightness, and stress-induced cardiac strain.
Janudhara & Grivadhara (Joint & Nerve Relief): Focused pouring over the knees or neck. The warmth and herbal properties penetrate deep into the synovial fluid and nerve endings, reducing inflammation in Osteoarthritis and Cervical Spondylosis.
Pizhichil (The Royal Snehana): Often called a “Squeeze Massage, “ this involves pouring liters of warm medicated oil over the entire body. It is the ultimate treatment for Neuropathy, Muscular Dystrophy, and Chronic Fatigue, as it flushes toxins and deeply nourishes the tissues (Dhatus).
